Aquifers

An aquifer can help to reduce energy costs. Aquifers has the possibility to store large quantities of cold and warm water underground.

 During the summer warm water can be produced in a natural way or as waste heat. In the winter this water can be used for heating purposes. 

The same counts during the winter, when cold water can be cooled naturally. In the summer this water can be used to cool a process or building.

Aquifers can also be used as temporary storage of heat and cold. In batch processes this can be very cost effective.

Cogeneration


Absorption heatpump

Microturbines or generators produce both heat and electricity. Normally this is not an economical way of producing energy, unless a grid is not available. However if the waste heat is used for heating then the efficiency gets better. Even better it becomes, when the waste heat is used to produce cold water for cooling purposes.

Verhoef has done projects with cogeneration successfully for building HVAC as for supermarkets.  At the moment cogeneration is under study for Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

Solar powered icemaker


Ice..an important cooling aid

Ice is very useful when cooling fish, fruits and vegetables. It can be produced at other locations then where used and separated by time also. In developing countries this is very important, as a reliable grid is not always at hand.

Verhoef works on a solar powered icemaker, together with specialists, such as Stork and KIEM. A feasibility study will show whether a solar powered icemaker can be made economically. As many scientists have tried to achieve results, without success, this will be a hard job.
